The short answer
Most small and medium businesses in Nigeria will pay somewhere between ₦150,000 and ₦500,000 for a good, professionally built website. Online stores and bigger websites cost more. Custom software, booking systems and apps are usually priced separately, based on what they need to do.
For reference, our own prices are ₦200,000 for a 5-page business website and ₦400,000 for larger websites and online stores. Both include the domain, hosting and business email for the first year.
What affects the price of a website
These are the things that make one website cost more than another:
- Number of pages: a 5-page company site is much less work than a 50-page site.
- Custom design vs. template: a design made for your brand takes longer than reusing a template.
- Online payments: an online store with products, a cart and Paystack or Flutterwave payments takes more work.
- Special features: bookings, member logins, dashboards and integrations add to the cost.
- Content: if the developer writes your text or sources images, that's extra work.
- Who's building it: experienced teams usually charge more, but they also tend to build faster, more reliable websites.
The yearly costs most people forget
Building the website is a one-time cost, but keeping it online has yearly costs too:
- Domain name: you renew your .com or .com.ng address every year.
- Hosting: the server that keeps your website online is usually paid yearly.
- Business email: addresses like you@yourbusiness.com.ng often come with hosting.
- Maintenance: updates, fixes and new content, if you want someone to handle it.
Why some websites are very cheap
A ₦50,000 website might be fine for a hobby, but very cheap websites often cut corners. Common problems include slow loading, a design that breaks on phones, no SEO setup, the domain registered in the developer's name instead of yours, and nobody to call when something goes wrong.
Before you choose the cheapest option, ask who will own the domain, what happens after launch and whether you can see websites they've built.
How to get an accurate quote
Make a short list of the pages you want, any features you need (like payments or bookings), two or three websites you like, and your budget. Any good developer can give you a clear price from that.
